Learning outcomes

There will be an opportunity to discuss:

  • When do we use Welsh and when and why do we turn to English
  • What makes it difficult to use the Welsh language and what are the challenges
  • Ideas for using the Welsh language assertively
  • Create a plan to increase personal use of the Welsh language

Course content – Two 2-hour sessions

Session 1 : Introduction to Language Assertiveness and recognise difficult situations

  • Explore different profiles of speakers
  • Appreciate linguistic-social structures
  • Understand linguistic choice and change
  • Identify and reflect on difficult situations
  • Draw up a personal action plan

Session 2 : Implementation and evaluation of our Language Assertiveness

  • Evaluate the personal action plan
  • Reinforce the understanding of Language Assertiveness
  • Re-frame negative linguistic-social factors
  • Practice proactive assertiveness, discuss messages and respond to challenges
  • Adopt a strategic approach to Language Assertiveness
