webinar
11:00 am - 12:00 pm, 29 July 2021

This year IAITH: The Welsh Centre for Language Planning is hosting an event to discuss the experiences of refugees and asylum seekers of settling in Wales. The Welsh Government published its Nation of Sanctuary: Refugee and Asylum Seeker Plan in January 2019. We will be showing a short film by Dr Gwennan Higham, Swansea University made with refugees who have recently been given the right to stay in Britain by the Home Office. They discuss their experiences of making their home in Wales, living here during the pandemic, the links they have with local people, and their perceptions of Wales, identity and the Welsh language.

The issues arising from these experiences will be discussed by a panel consisting of: Joseph Gnagbo, Shara Atashi, Gwennan Higham, Rev. Aled Edwards and Sioned Williams MS. The discussion  will be led  by Sion Meredith, Head of Learn Welsh Aberystwyth University.
