Cynog Dafis and the Language Movement

Cynog Dafis will be the guest lecturer at Language Planners Wales 2012 Annual Lecture which is to be delivered in the Societies' Pavilion1 at the National Eisteddfod at Llandow, Vale of Glamorgan, at 3.00p.m., Thursday, 9th August. The title of the lecture, which will be delivered in Welsh, will be 'The Language Movement: where next?'.

Cynog was prominent in establishing the Welsh Language Society in the 1960s and kept his interest in language issues throughout his political career as an influential Plaid Cymru MP and AM.

Cynog will offer a critique of the development of the Welsh language movement since Saunders Lewis' seminal 1962 BBC lecture 'Tynged yr Iaith' (The Fate of the Language) before setting out new challenges and ideas for today's Welsh language planners and activists
