How to decipher the Census?

Date & Time: 9.45a.m. - 1.00p.m., Friday, 14 December 2012.

The initial Census headlines are expected to be released on 11 December 2012.

How can we make best use of the data? What do the headline statistics tell us? What can they not reveal? What lessons do we need to learn as language planners? What lies behind the press headlines?

Experts will give us three perspectives on how to get the best out of the Census – in terms of geography, sociology of language and politics. Discussion groups will follow the presentations around how language policy and planning in Wales should approach Census data constructively over the next few years.
