Guidance on chairing meetings and / or hosting events bilingually, reflecting on language practices that are inclusive / conform to Welsh language standards, good practice guidance, developing vocabulary and phrases, practising by role playing.
Session content (2.5 hours)
Part 1: Why offer a bilingual service when hosting events and chairing meetings?
- Compliance with Welsh Language Standards
- Discuss what we consider to be an event / meeting
- Define "bilingual"
- Reflect on language practices that are inclusive
Part 2: How to approach delivering meetings and events bilingually?
- Consider the whole process (from planning to hosting a bilingual event)
- Differences of in-person and virtual events
- Simultaneous translation and tools
- Share the principles of effective bilingual chairing
Part 3: What are the obstacles and challenges?
- Case study
- Common problems and how to solve them
- Identify the different roles in encouraging more use of the Welsh language (Chair / Organiser / Attendee)
Part 4: Implementation
- What can I do? A role for everyone within the organisation
- Develop bilingual vocabulary and phrases for meetings
- Good practice guidelines
