Learning outcomes
There will be an opportunity to discuss:
- When do we use Welsh and when and why do we turn to English
- What makes it difficult to use the Welsh language and what are the challenges
- Ideas for using the Welsh language assertively
- Create a plan to increase personal use of the Welsh language
Course content – Two 2-hour sessions
Session 1 : Introduction to Language Assertiveness and recognise difficult situations
- Explore different profiles of speakers
- Appreciate linguistic-social structures
- Understand linguistic choice and change
- Identify and reflect on difficult situations
- Draw up a personal action plan
Session 2 : Implementation and evaluation of our Language Assertiveness
- Evaluate the personal action plan
- Reinforce the understanding of Language Assertiveness
- Re-frame negative linguistic-social factors
- Practice proactive assertiveness, discuss messages and respond to challenges
- Adopt a strategic approach to Language Assertiveness
