Language: The Business Case

16 November 2016

Over the next few months IAITH: the welsh centre for language planning will be working with business in three towns across Denbighshire.

Language: The Business Case

The aim is to increase their capacity to work bilingually. Mae tystiolaeth yn dangos bod busnesau sydd yn arddangos sgiliau a gweithle dwyieithog yn medru Research shows that using Welsh at work can increase the appeal of businesses for Welsh speakers, Welsh learners and tourists – the overall aim therefore is to improve trade for business and have a positive impact on their bottom line.

The three towns are:

  • St Asaph
  • Llangollen
  • Prestatyn

This innovative pilot project, which is funded by Denbighshire County Council, will work specifically with businesses to raise awareness and to increase their confidence and skills to facilitate the use of Welsh with customers.

The work will include:

  • Training looking at knowledge, skills and resources
  • 1:1 Mentoring sessions to empower business to map their current capacity and look at planning their use of bilingualism
  • Creating a toolkit which will support businesses to use some verbal and written Welsh and provide guidance on how to use the Welsh language online

We’ve named the project Language: The Business Case as research has shown that using two languages can help businesses to trade and can broaden their networks.
